In the fast-paced, busy world we live in, it is easy to get out of touch with people you care about, and can be hard to maintain relationships, even with your family!
For the Zubik family of Texas, this is not an issue. Every year, they come together to relax and celebrate at their annual family reunion that has gone on an impressive 71 years, and have been recently highlighted in a story about their Reunion tradition in American Profile! Each year, they along the Comal River in New Braunfels, TX to enjoy the beauty of nature and family while staying in rustic cabins and spending afternoons leisurely floating down the river.

The tradition got started by the original two, Jack and Anne who fell in love with the location on their Honeymoon in 1938, and returned every year since with the growing family in tow! As their four children got married and had kids of their own, everyone returned to the Comel River each year, and now the group spans four generations.
Even though Jack and Anne are no longer with them, the Zubik family continues the tradition to maintain the family connection, because they know that relationships are based on experiences, and want to remain close as an extended family. Reunions are a great opportunity for children to get to know and stay connected to their Cousins, Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents, and for the adults to reconnect and reminisce.
Many people don’t take the step to initiate a family reunion because they fear the stress or time commitment of planning the event. The Zubik family is a perfect example of how simple and worthwhile the event can really be. Each year, they simply return to the same location, rent a cabin and each family brings their own food. All that’s left to do is relax, have fun enjoying the land and playing games, and spend time as a family making memories.
