For the Zubik family of Texas, this is not an issue. Every year, they come together to relax and celebrate at their annual family reunion that has gone on an impressive 71 years, and have been recently highlighted in a story about their Reunion tradition in American Profile! Each year, they along the Comal River in New Braunfels, TX to enjoy the beauty of nature and family while staying in rustic cabins and spending afternoons leisurely floating down the river.

Every year, the National Council of Negro Women holds the Black Family Reunion Celebration on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.  The three-day cultural event celebrates the strengths and traditional values of the African American family.

With an expected 500,000 people in attendance, it is not a weekend to be missed! (We hope all 500,000 will enter to win our $20,000 Reunion Cyberhunt Sweepstakes for a chance to win a Reunion of a lifetime!)

When Dr. Dorothy Height, the NCNW Chair, developed the idea for this event in 1986, it was at a time when there was much negative speculation about the “vanishing of the black family.”  Dr. Height wanted to create a celebration that would initiate positive action from government agencies, private and public institutions, corporations, and community-based organizations to work together with the black community to better solve issues affecting African American families.

Now in its 24th year, the Black Family Reunion Celebration has grown into the largest family reunion celebration in America. Admission is free-of-charge due to the generous donations from corporate sponsors and individual donors.

Have a Holiday cookie swap! This is a great idea for a sorority reunion, or for friends and family! You can learn some great tips at this website. Not only does everyone get to share their favorite recipe, but everyone gets to take home lots of yummy cookies! If the members of your reunion are not interested in baking, think about having a chili cook off! Both activities will get your guests involved.

Another nice idea is to have a holiday ornament or gift exchange, which kids love! For a gift exchange with a twist, try a “Yankee Swap”.
